DESCRIPTION:Summertime…. \nAnne Chesnut\, Richard Crozier\, Abby Kasonik\, Megan Marlatt\, Trisha Orr\, \nLincoln Perry\, Priscilla Long Whitlock\, Sarah Boyts Yoder\, Cate West Zahl \n20 July – 26 August 2018 \nOpening Reception\, Friday\, July 20\, 5 – 7 p.m. \nClosing Reception\, Sunday\, August 26\, 2 – 4 p.m. \nFrom July 20 through August 26\, 2018\, Les Yeux du Monde presents Summertime…\, featuring the work of nine artists evoking summer’s varied scenes and associations. Some of these artists—Anne Chesnut\, Richard Crozier\, Trisha Orr\, Megan Marlatt\, Lincoln Perry and Priscilla Long Whitlock—are long time favorites with the gallery with many shows to their history. Others are exciting newcomers to our stable—Abby Kasonik\, Sarah Boyts Yoder and Cate West Zahl. Subjects and mediums vary from Anne Chesnut’s Summer Samplers\, multi layered prints that she hand stitches together\, to Richard Crozier’s oil paintings of bountiful summer gardens\, Megan Marlatt’s whimsical carnival scenes from her semester in Belgium\, Lincoln Perry’s watercolors of Italian sojourns\, and Priscilla Long Whitlock’s oils of the ocean or fields in summer. If the aforementioned artists are on the representational end of the spectrum\, newcomers work mostly in the abstract idiom. Abby Kasonik will show her trademark atmospheric indigo acrylic paintings along with newer oil stick and mixed media works on paper; Sarah Boyts Yoder will exhibit ebullient surprising acrylic abstractions and Cate West Zahl will show more linear and geometric oils in summery saturated greens and blues. Trisha Orr not only will exhibit paintings of idyllic revelers by the river or shopping and making summer feasts\, she also will exhibit a few of her powerful expressionistic series\, Charlottesville Burning\, evoking in the horrendous events on the Lawn and in Charlottesville last August 12. \nThere will be an Opening Reception on Friday\, July 20 from 5 – 7 p.m. and a Closing Reception on Sunday August 26 from 2 – 4 p.m. Gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday 1 – 5 and by appointment (Call 434-973-5566 or email LYDMGallery@gmail.com).
