We don’t get invited to a wine release party that often so when the opportunity arises, it’s time to grab the parka and head over to the winery.
This weekend, Saturday the 15th, Keswick Vineyards releases its 2009 Cabernet Franc. This is a pure, 100% Cab Franc which has aged for 10 months in American oak barrels. Those who question the flavor and taste profile will be pleased to know that cracked black pepper, spices, and red fruit have been noted. The good news is that you can open this bottle with your hearty weekend meal or enjoy it over the next 6-8 years.
While you’re in the neighborhood, you can turn the drive into a tasting day as Horton Vineyards, Burnley Vineyards, and Barboursville Vineyards are all open for tastings. Don’t forget that Barboursville continues the January Reserve Red Celebration until the end of the month.
If you want to be in a different part of the state, then join the festivities at Paradise Springs Winery for its one-year anniversary celebration. This is the Winery that won the coveted Governor’s Cup for its 2009 Chardonnay. Not a bad reward for an initial staging!
Maybe this type of weekend outing will endear you to join one of the many wine clubs as early releases are often reserved just for members.
