Let the countdown to warmer days begin! The Loudoun County Department of Economic Development has started planning for the 2009 Spring Farm Tour scheduled for May 16 and 17, 2009, when the farms and wineries open their doors to visitors to buy produce, check out the animals (like these cute piglets, pictured below), sip some wines, pet the alpacas, and see how food gets from the farm to the table. To learn about last year’s event and see the brochure of participating farms, click here.
The whole idea– besides having a fun weekend in the country– is to increase consumer awareness of the county’s farms, traditions, and rural character. Farmers who’d like to participate in Loudoun’s Spring Farm Tour should contact Ann Higgins at the Loudoun County Department of Economic Development (703-777-0426 or ann.higgins at loudoun.gov). Keep in mind the educational aspect of the Farm Tour and consider featuring on-farm demonstrations and tours to attract visitors!
