Last night I was so lucky to attend the performance of Albert Herring at The Castleton Festival, and I cannot
tell you just how blown away I was by this whole experience. Overall, I was absolutely overwhelmed that we have that caliber of a performance, as well as this level of performer’s, in our quiet little neck of the woods. Maestro Lorin Maazel and The Châteauville Foundation has created the new Castleton Festival, and he has brought together an exceptional group of nearly 200 singers, instrumentalists, conductors, directors and set designers in Rappahannock County to live and work together and produce what has to be one of the most amazing music festivals in the world. Not only were the settings at Maestro Lorin Maazel’s personal home breath taking, but the whole experience was world class from the acoustics to the level of sophistication. The energy from the performers was amazing, their voices booms tirelessly from the intimate stage in the Maazel’s home. The music was flawlessly performed by the Orchestra from The Royal College of Music in London, that in itself was unparalleled. The Opera, Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring had a world class cast of young rising stars, yet also included amazing young talents, like Tina Hughes, a senior from Fauquier County. If you have anytime at all take in a performance of this festival do not miss it, or make the time to attend as we are so lucky to have this come to our area. Please take advantage of and support the The Châteauville Foundation for this truly is a gift to our region. Please check the schedule for a list of events this weekend.
