APPALACHIAN TRAIL HISTORY HIKE
Join PEC and Tom Johnson, Archivist for the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, for a scenic one and a half mile walk along the Appalachian Trail above Ashby Gap. Learn about the local history of this section of the AT, along with the Civil War and natural history of the area. The hike will begin at PEC’s Piedmont Memorial Overlook property in Boyce, and participants will have the chance to experience the spectacular view and learn about PEC’s efforts to restore native habitat on the property and protect the region’s historic landscape. http://www.pecva.org/events/appalachian-trail-history-hike

Park Day: A Program and Clean-up at Rector’s Crossroads Battlefield and Mosby Rendezvous Site
Learn about the famed Mosby Rendezvous Site, J.E.B. Stuart encampment, and June 21, 1863 cavalry battle at Rector’s Crossroads while helping us clean up the terrain. Refreshments will be served. Dress for outside work with good boots and gloves. Bring a rake if you can. Reservations–(540) 687-6681. Meeting at Caleb Rector House, 1461 Atoka Road, opposite the Atoka Store. [NOTE: 1461 Atoka Road has a navigation unit address of “Marshall VA” although it is 10 miles away!] This is a program of the Mosby Heritage Area Association.

Wild & Scenic Film Festival in Culpeper
Lights! Camera! Adventure! Friends of the Rappahannock’s (FOR) 5th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival comes to the Rappahannock headwaters on Sunday, April 3, at the Daniel Technology Center on the Germanna Community College campus in Culpeper. Doors open at noon and the films run from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. FOR is a non-profit, watershed advocacy group in its 31st year of protecting the Rappahannock River, from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay. Festival tickets are $10 in advance and $5 for students. Special prices are available with the purchase of an FOR membership. Tickets can be purchased online at www.riverfriends.org.

Boxwood Blight Lecture at the Market at Grelen
Gardening Lecture by Expert Robert Saunders of Saunders Brothers Nursery. “What is Boxwood Blight & How Do We Beat it with New Boxwood Varieties?” The Market at Grelen is excited to team up with Robert Saunders, of Saunders Brother’s Nursery, to create a fun and informative lecture about the importance and risks of Boxwood Blight. You will also learn about the more resistant cultivars of boxwoods (new and old).
