Andre Pater: In a Sporting Light
Time: Wednesday-Sunday, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Price: Adults $10; Seniors $8; Youth $8; Children Free; Members Free
Phone: (540) 687-6542
Information: The bold and vibrant compositions of contemporary sporting artist Andre Pater (Polish-American, b. 1953) are often compared to those of the great 20th-century British sporting artist Sir Alfred Munnings. Pater’s refinement in pastels in addition to the classic medium of oil solidifies his rightful place as an illustrious artist in the 21st century. Works from collections across the country will be represented in the retrospective exhibition, Andre Pater: A Matter of Light. “Go beyond the mere image, and the painting becomes a ‘matter of light,’ ” notes sporting art authority and National Sporting Library & Museum Board Member Lorian Peralta-Ramos of Pater’s work. The retrospective exhibition and accompanying catalog present an in-depth analysis of Pater’s mastery of the use of light and insightful understanding of animal anatomy and behavior.
“Light: received, released, refracted, retained”
The Arts In The Village Gallery is proud to announce its Featured Artist Exhibit for June: “Light: received, released, refracted, retained”. This show highlights works by copper artist Anne Jordan and photographer James Norman. Their works are a celebration of light and will be on display the entire month of June.
For this exhibit, Anne Jordan has created floral candlesticks, mirrors and fountains, each relating to light in its own way. She has carefully formed the hard copper into delicate looking roses, dogwood flowers and ivy vines. In addition, she has collaborated with lamp work artist Julie Bahun, to create unique candlesticks incorporating beautiful large glass beads.
Photographer James Norman has prepared a collection of prints of some of his favorite landscape images captured in remote locations in Alaska, Iceland and elsewhere. Although lighting is always an important consideration in every photograph, there are times when nature dramatically illuminates a landscape in a way the reveals hidden details or unexpected color.
During the reception on June 17th, from 6-8 pm, Anne will demonstrate some of her techniques, and James will explain some of the techniques he employs in his photography. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet the artists and see that work that goes behind creating the art.

In this fish-themed exhibition, fine artist Joan Limbrick and ceramicist Scarlett Pons commemorate the form and grace of our fresh-water finned friends in their respective mediums of paint and clay.
Joan’s lush and colorful paintings are exemplary of her personality – joyful and celebratory. Her signature work combines sensual forms with an expressive and imaginative style.
Scarlett balances formal beauty with functionality by creating ceramic pieces inspired by nature. Her latest serving plate series boast vibrant color and patterns with smooth arching shapes derived from fish silhouettes.
