Celtic Fiddle Festival
Called “three of the finest folk violinists anywhere” by The Washington Post, The Celtic Fiddle Festival celebrates the violin in all its globe-trotting variations. Fiddlers Kevin Burke (Ireland), Christian Lemaître (Brittany, France) and Charlie McKerron (Scotland) showcase a fascinating juxtaposition of international and individual styles. With the able and agile accompaniment of Nicolas Quemener (Brittany, France) you have a perfect storm of the finest Celtic music your ears will ever encounter.
“Three sensational fiddlers from three distinct Celtic traditions. Exhilarating fun!” – Boston Herald
In concert each artist plays a solo set, showcasing their individual musical styles and cultural heritage, followed by a collaborative set featuring all three fiddlers. Sold-out tours and standing ovations give testimony to the electricity and excitement generated by the group. The quartet combines their considerable talents, rich musical traditions, and spontaneous humor for an evening of dazzling energy and subtle grace. These traditional masters showcase their regional repertoires, and together conjure an unforgettable performance, playing with such relentless precision and fire, that the tunes transcend all cultural and geographical barriers.

Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill are two of the world’s leading artists in traditional Irish music. Their adventurous, soulful interpretations of traditional tunes are recognized the world over for their exquisite musicality and irresistible rhythm. For over two decades, the Irish fiddler and American guitarist have performed at major concert halls and festivals around the globe. The duo also helped found the new Irish supergroup The Gloaming.
The New York Times describes the duo as “simply exquisite. They strip old reels and jigs to their essence, leaving space between the notes for harmonics and whispered blue notes…A Celtic complement to Steve Reich’s quartets or Miles Davis’s ‘Sketches of Spain’.”

Rahshia Sawyer is a conceptual photographer based in the DC area. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Foundation Francois Schneider, and Radford University Museum. Her current projects focus on the relationships that exist between beauty and humanity and its balanced (or imbalanced) interaction between reality and fantasy. Her figurative floating silk panels dwarf the viewer, disconnecting them from reality, and recreating their singular emotional struggle with loss — an experience we all share. Come experience the art for yourself at the reception, May 13, 6-8 pm.
