The Capitol Steps “What to Expect When You’re Electing”

Sunday, September 18, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Hylton Performing Arts Center, 10960 George Mason Circle
Manassas, VA 20110 United States

Before you head to the polls to elect our 45th president, join us for the rocking and roasting local institution, The Capitol Steps. For more than 30 years, The Capitol Steps has traveled the nation satirizing the most serious of subjects: politics. Founded by Hill staffers in 1981, their blend of humor and musical comedy leaves both sides of the aisle rolling in laughter. Absolutely no one is safe from their lampooning -from Barack Obama belting out a show tune, to Nancy Pelosi rocking out, to a graceful Chris Christie pirouetting through a classical ballet. The Capitol Steps presents renditions from their current review, including Present George W. Bush’s ballad “Jeb is Ready, He’s my Bother,” “If There Were No Rich Men” from Senator Bernie Sanders, and Senator Hillary Clinton’s “Deleter of the Facts.” No matter who or what is in the headlines, you can bet The Capitol Steps will prove that if you are not part of the solution, you’re probably running for President. “Its political satire brings chuckles…rave reviews…guffaws…and bipartisan grins all around.” (The Wall Street Journal)

Reduced Shakespeare Company

Friday, October 28, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Hylton Performing Arts Center, 10960 George Mason Circle
Manassas, VA 20110 United States

Enjoy a comedic romp through 600 years of American history in just 90 minutes as this trio of comedians turns their satirical wit to the U.S. election process. Coming at the height of election season, this rollercoaster ride through our country’s glorious and messy past reminds audiences of what makes America great…our ability to enjoy a good laugh. Since its original long-running hit show, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged),” the Reduced Shakespeare Company (RSC) has taken on many other topics, all abridged and every bit as hilarious. In this production, RSC irreverently portrays American giants from Lincoln to Lewis and Clark, tackles the controversies of our history, and manifests our destiny into a rapid and ridiculous retelling of history from sea to shining sea. “What the ‘Daily Show’ might be like if it were hosted by the Marx Brothers.” (Boston Herald)
