World War I Wednesday
In commemoration of the centennial of World War I, the National Museum of the Marine Corps will be hosting WWI Wednesday educational displays the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month.
The Museum’s Education and Community Outreach teams will be displaying WWI uniforms and gear in Leatherneck Gallery. There will also be a craft for children!
Admission to the Museum and parking are FREE!

Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, the Old Rag Master Naturalists, and the Town of Culpeper will conduct a planting day for a newly designed Pollinator Garden in Yowell Meadow Park. The Pollinator Garden will contain a variety of native trees, shrubs, and perennials to attract and nurture a variety of butterflies, bees, and other pollinators.
The Planting Day will be held on Thursday, October 12th starting at 9 a.m. with a rain date for the following Thursday, October 19th. The Town of Culpeper has already begun construction of the garden pathways in preparation for the planting day. The public is invited to attend and assist with the planting. There will be also opportunities to hear about the benefits of planting native plants in a pollinator habitat garden both in public places and at home.

Film: “Johnny Eager”
(MGM, 1941) Robert Taylor plays Johnny Eager, a parolee who is pretending to go straight as a cab driver but is still connected to the mob. Through his parole officer, Eager meets sociology student Lisbeth Bard (Lana Turner), who as it turns out, is the stepdaughter of the District Attorney responsible for sending him to the prison. While Lisbeth falls for Eager, the DA is on to his latest crime scheme. Van Heflin won an Oscar for his portrayal as Taylor’s alcoholic, intellectual best friend. Film: “White Heat”
(Warner Bros., 1949) This pulsating gangster film was directed by Raoul Walsh and stars James Cagney as a mother-obsessed, psychopathic gangster exiting the world with the legendary “Made it, Ma. Top of the world” ending. One of the toughest and most brilliant crime films ever made, “White Heat” marked a breakthrough in the explicitly psychological depiction of screen bad guys. The film was added to the National Film Registry in 2003. Free, at the Library of Congress Packard Campus Theater located at 19053 Mt. Pony Rd. in Culpeper, VA. No reservations required. Tango Buenos Aires: The Spirit of Argentina
One of Argentina’s greatest cultural exports, Tango Buenos Aires is considered the most authentic tango ensemble performing today. Take a journey to this South American country as dancers dazzle audiences with sensual moves and playful dramatics, while the musicians entice with melodies of romance and nostalgia. This program traces the evolution of tango through the musical compositions of Carlos Gardel, a central figure in the history of tango, and his collaborations with composer Astor Piazzolla. The Spirit of Argentina showcases the breadth of styles and range of emotions that have made tango the cultural phenomenon that it is. “Crafted swirling, fast-paced tapestries of movement, laced with proud postures and sensual couplings.” (The Washington Post)

Culpeper Air Fest, Culpeper Regional Airport located at 12517 Beverly Ford Rd, Brandy Station, VA 22714. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Event is free. Parking is available at Culpeper County High School and Eastern View High School. Complimentary bus transportation is
provided beginning at 8:30 a.m. until after the show closes. Handicapped parking will be available at the airport this year. Bring earplugs, cameras, folding chairs, sunscreen and cash for food and treats. As this is a community, family-oriented event, for everyone’s enjoyment, please leave your coolers and tents in your car or at home. Vendors will have plenty of food and beverages
available throughout the day. The crowds and aircraft noise can be stressful for your pets, and they’ll be much happier if left at home. Services dogs (or other animals) are permitted at the airshow. The Fauquier Heritage & Preservation Foundation, Inc. announces the Dedication and Grand Opening of the Robert L. Sinclair Education Center
Marshall, August 15, 2017: The Fauquier Heritage & Preservation Foundation announces the dedication and grand opening of the Robert L. Sinclair Education Center on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 4118 Winchester Road, Marshall, Virginia, next to the John K. Gott Library. The dedication will take place at 9:30 am and will be followed by an open house. The dedication is in honor of Mr. Sinclair’s decades of service to the Foundation. During the dedication a plaque will be unveiled honoring the people most instrumental in the founding of the Education Center.
After the dedication visitors can tour the new facility which includes space for lectures, presentations and exhibits. On display will be newly acquired household artifacts, recently transcribed letters, and historic county maps. The theme will be Fauquier People, Places, and their Homes. Music will be provided by Skip Glascock’s Cobbler Mountain Grass Band. Light refreshments will be served.

Fall Farm Days: The Nature of Sky Meadows
During Fall Farm Days’ Nature Weekend, get in touch with nature and explore a managed landscape rich in biodiversity. Celebrate the beauty and diversity of the park through a variety of programs, demonstrations, and activities. Learn about Sky Meadows’ bluebird monitoring program, race wooly bear caterpillars, visit with Virginia Master Naturalists, Virginia Department of Forestry foresters and more.
In addition to nature-themed programs, we also offer Mount Bleak House tours, blacksmithing demonstrations, live music, a children’s play area, delicious food and drinks for sale, and, of course, the pick-your-own pumpkin patch.

Family Day–Sketchpad Marines: The Marine Corps Combat Art Program
The Combat Art Program in the Marine Corps can trace its roots to 1942 when Brigadier General Robert Denig said, “Go to war, do art.” Today, the Marine Corps’ Combat Art Program collection includes more than 9,000 works.
Tour the newly opened Combat Art Gallery, and then young visitors can join us for hands-on art activities in
the Museum classroom.

Paranormal Investigation at the Graffiti House
Join a paranormal Investigation at the Graffiti House,19484 Brandy Rd., Brandy Station. Spirit Guides Paranormal will lead two groups of six people each on two Saturdays in October, Oct. 14 and Oct. 28. The first investigation is from 9pm-11pm; the second investigation will be from 11 pm-1am. The cost is $25.00 per person. Reservations are required. History In Your Hands
History In Your Hands is a program for visitors of all ages who are blind or have low vision. HIYH is an opportunity to interact with the collections through tactile exploration of selected objects, and through verbal description, tactile graphics, and other materials for artifacts that cannot be touched. Trained Museum volunteers and Visitor Services staff lead these events.
There is no fee for this program, but pre-registration is required.
