There was tremendous reader response to “13 Ways of Looking at Old Rag,” the art gallery feature in the Autumn 2007 issue of The Piedmont Virginian where we showcased artistic renditions of the region’s fabled peak. Recently we hiked up to the top (choosing a day mid-week when we thought the crowds wouldn’t flock to leaf-peep) and the fall colors were sublime. Not as dramatic as past years, but beautiful just the same.

Old Rag is actually in Madison County — although it is very close to the county line with Rappahannock.
