Ok so this morning didn’t start out so well, a bit worse than your typical Monday after a long weekend, so I decided I needed to refocus. I am lucky that I have a wonderful lake very nearby so I chose to take a little walk. As I walked a long the shores of Lake Brittle, I was able to slow down, gather my thoughts and put my mind at task, well at least for the first 1/2 mile. Then I started to notice all the bottles, cans, diapers, bait containers, socks … That is when I refocused my focus. We have so many wonderful resources here why can’t we really enjoy them and take care of them. I am pretty sure that a 12 ounce cans weighs a lot less when you have finished drinking it, so it should not be a problem to take it out with you. I ended up walking back to the ranger stand and I grabbed a few trash bags then walked around the lake and filled them up. 2 bags of trash, one fishing net, miles of mono filament (which by the way they have a recycle station for), and a good walk later I was refocused ready to start my day. I would hope the readers of this blog already share this same feeling, but I also thought that maybe this would inspire you to bring a long a trash bag the next time you go for a hike and clean up for those who may not be so smart? I love where we live and I want to keep it beautiful, but I am only one person. Leave nothing but memories, they will be so much better.

AMEN! We have lived on Lake Brittle several years and my husband and I often come home with trash collected along the way. It is such a beautiful lake, but people need to stop destroying it with their litter. There are trash cans near the picnic area – use them! Thanks for your post.
