What a busy wine week for the state. Kluge Estate Winery and Vineyard won 6 medals in the Inaugural Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition. This is the world’s first truly Asian wine competition, and Kluge came away with the most honors for any individual winery.
Four of Kluge’s sparkling wines won a total of six awards.
—2004 SP Rose won a Silver medal in the sparkling wine category and a Silver for dim sum pairing.
—2004 SP Blanc de Blanc won a Silver in the sparkling wine category and a Bronze for dim sum pairing.
—2004 SP Reserve: Bronze in the sparkling wine category.
—2004 SP Blanc de Noir: Bronze for sparkling wine.
The significance of these awards is that Asia, as one of the judges commented, is considered the fastest growing region for wine consumption in the world. This, of course, is great news for Kluge and for the state of Virginia and its impressive list of award-winning wines. Now so many more connoisseurs will discover the beauty from Virginia terroir.
In the meantime, you know what pairs wonderfully with Dim Sum.
