They loved VA wine at the 10th Annual San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. The event is billed as “The Largest Competition of American Wines in the World,” and with almost 5,000 entries, VA scored some significant attention.
They came home with 23 medals with two categories receiving numerous accolades: 6 awards for Cabernet Franc and 4 for Viognier. Once again we are proud of the high performance from so many of our fine wineries.
–Both Doukenie Winery and Pollak Vineyards won Golds for their 2007 Cab Francs.
—Sugarleaf Vineyards and Veramar Vineyard earned Silvers for their 2008 Cab Francs, and
—Barboursville Vineyards and Rappahannock Cellars came home with Bronze awards for their 2007 Cab Francs.
In the Viognier category:
—White Hall Vineyards, Chrysalis Vineyards, and Sugarleaf Vineyards earned Silver medals for their 2008 production, and
—Rappahannock Cellars scored a bronze for its 2008 Viognier.
Philip Carter Winery scored a Gold for its 2008 Chardonnay, and the other 12 VA winners earned Silvers and Bronze awards in additional categories such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Bordeaux Blends.
