There will be an Organic Garden Primer Workshop and Celebration at Airlie Center May 21from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. If you need some inspiration to jump start your own garden this year register for this Local Food Project workshop. You will learn essential techniques and tips for small-scale sustainable food production. The Crew at the Local Food Project will cover all the ins and outs of organic gardening. Basics like compost and pest control and information on hand tools and season extension will all be covered. There will be plenty of time for questions, networking, and tool demos. “Guest Grower” Emily Cook, from The Farm at Sunnyside, will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate one of her favorite tools, the tilther. Whether you’re a brand new gardener or an intermediate grower looking for new strategies, this event will help you feel better prepared to face the season. This will be a great opportunity to meet local producers, connect with local food fans, and sample delicious snacks, wine, and beer created from Virginia-grown ingredients.
To register, send an email to Brynn Slate at bslate@airlie.org by Wednesday at 5 p.m. The workshop only costs $20 (including food and refreshments) and will take place at Airlie Center in the LFP garden. Visit the Airlie website for more details and directions. View the color postcard to print and share with friends.
