I know that the Greater Washington Region is getting ready for a Tiger Woods appearance, but we’re not talking golf clubs. We’re acknowledging that almost every winery in the state has some sort of membership wine club. These clubs are a wonderful way to enjoy special members-only releases and events.
Now, the ante has been upped. The VA Wine of the Month Club has debuted its newest program, The Cellar Reserve, a limited membership club “focusing on the oldest, most expensive, and rarest wines in Virginia.”
These are harder to obtain wines from a company that for 21 years has been delivering Virginia wines to members across the Commonwealth. The first shipment, due out later this month, focuses on the Monticello Wine Trail region and includes the 2002 Barboursville Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Jefferson Vineyard’s 2001 Petit Verdot, and Michael Shaps 2007 Chardonnay. This is a club for individuals who want hard-to-find wines, exceptional vintages, from top-tier wineries.
A Cellar Reserve wine has a minimum $25 retail value and is of limited or single-barrel production. These are wines that are not available in individual winery tasting rooms.
Membership costs $100 per shipment (inclusive of tax and shipping charges). For those looking to add an exclusive wine notch to their tasting profile, membership will be limited to 250 people.
