It’s that wonderful time of the year when we focus our energy on staying warm and then hit the OOPS button as in Valentine’s Day is almost here. This Cupid affair is one that few want to miss, and restaurants and inns have cooked up special programs and meals to help us plan accordingly. Since Valentine’s Day, the 14th, falls on a Monday this year, many businesses have turned the single day into a weekend of possibilities. One caveat: Space fills up quickly, so focus.

Here are some places that can make life lovely and easy for the weekend or just for the day:

The Goodstone Inn & Estate has a weekend package (“Love is Inn the Air”) and offers two seatings for the 14th. The Boar’s Head Inn has a special Valentine’s Day Menu and lodging packages. Poplar Springs Inn and Manor House offers a package which includes a 5-course dinner and continental breakfast the morning after. The Mason Inn Conference Center and Hotel offers a Sweetheart Package for Two  which includes overnight accommodations and a prix-fixe dinner at Boxwoods.

If you just want to find a restaurant and not do the overnight option, the above places can make it happen, but if you worry about that extra glass of bubbly, consider letting someone else drive. Reston Limousine has figured out the weekend options with a range of different packages.

If fireplace romance at home has greater appeal, then consider some of the carry-in options including those from Market Salamander. They have a market filled with temptations and are even serving a special Valentine’s Day menu in the cafe courtyard.

L’Auberge Chez Francois not only has a special menu for the weekend and celebrates the big V-Day by being open on Monday, but they offer something even more personal. The new book, Two for Tonight by chef Jacques Haeringer lets you cook up the romance with his new cookbook with recipes and strategies to make any meal special.

The options are bountiful, even an Indian plated dinner at Narmada Winery.

So many choices; just hurry and make reservations as this is one of those don’t miss holidays!
