These important little holidays, like Valentine’s Day, creep up on you and before you know it, you’re rushing around grabbing a big box of mediocre chocolate or an everyday wine. Now if you plan ahead, you can turn a day into a weekend event that promises to fulfill both food and wine expectations. I’m talking about the Farm Wineries Council of Virginia’s fifth annual event. The wine and food showcase will be held at the Westfields Marriott, Chantilly, Saturday and Sunday, February 12 and 13.
This year’s event will spotlight some of the state’s artisan, harder to find wines, fancy foods, and gourmet products. Starting to get the idea of what great fun you could have! Did I mention that the Marriott wants to simplify your planning by offering a special room rate for attendees, but don’t wait too long as these sell out quickly!
This is no small event, as a matter-of-fact, it gets better yearly. Look at some teaser numbers: Over 300 different wines will be represented as well as food and wine demonstrations and pairing seminars. There are even varietal tasting sessions which enable you to select your favorite Viognier or Cabernet, for instance.
Numerous personalities such as Warren Brown of CakeLove fame, and chefs including Richard Rosendale, exec chef at the Greenbrier Resort, will be participating. He recently earned top honors from the American Culinary Federation when he was chosen a Certified Master Chef!
This is just a little preview blog. We will revisit the event as the time gets closer, but wanted you to plan ahead so you are not left out of this fun and informative Virginia-based food and wine event.
