Having played the guitar across Europe and Asia, for President Bill Clinton at the White House, and for Queen Elizabeth II during her 2007 visit to Richmond, Va., Henderson’s blue grass genre and distinct fingerpicking style have won him loyal fans around the world. Famous Henderson devotees, like Doc Watson,Eric Clapton, and Brad Paisley, line up for a chance to own one of his hand-crafted mandolins or guitars. White, a singer, fiddler, guitarist, and tunesmith, has toured with Henderson in the United States and Europe.

“A string quartet that can easily morph into a jazz band,” wrote the New York Times after a 2009 performance by the Quatuor Ebène. The ensemble opened with Debussy and Haydn and then improvised on a film music theme—with exactly the same enthusiasm and passion.
What began in 1999 as a distraction in the university’s practice rooms for the four young French musicians has become a trademark of the Quatuor Ebène, and has generated lasting reverberations in the music scene. The four breathe new life into chamber music through their consistently direct, open-minded perspective on the works. Regardless of the genre, they approach the music with humility and respect. They change styles with gusto, and yet remain themselves: with all the passion that they experience for each piece, and which they bring to the stage and to their audiences directly and authentically.

Charlottesville Symphony – “Variations for Spring”

The orchestra performs works by Butterworth and Vaughan Williams, the Virginia premiere of Christopher Theofanidis’s “Dreamtime Ancestors” and Aaron Copland’s popular suite from “Appalachian Spring.”

Mozart’s Opera “Cos fan tutte” by Ash Lawn Opera
The summer season kicks off with Così fan tutte, one of Mozart’s most memorable operas. The witty and heartfelt story begins with a game of love and seduction when two young men decide to test their fiancées’ fidelity, only for both couples to discover the fickleness of attraction. For the first time, Ash Lawn Opera will take its mainstage opera on the road, with a fully-staged performance of Così fan tutte at The Paramount Theater for performances on July 10, 13, and 15. This comedic classic, full of mistaken identities, deceptive servants, jealous lovers, and sublime music, is a production you won’t want to miss.

Castleton in Performance: Breaking Silence Through the Power of Art
Moving Music, Fascinating Lectures, Inspiring Art Exhibit, breaking Silence about a forgotten genocide and slavery today. Bass-baritone Davone Tines, guitarist Forrest Marquisee, songwriter Nazmus Saquib and tabla player Syed Arefinul Haque perform music ranging from the American folksong “Oh Freedom” to “O Isis und Osiris” from Mozart’s Magic Flute to music from Bangladesh. The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center at the Hylton Center
