Horses & Hounds

Saturday, November 5, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Hear the echo of hunting horns and the thunder of horses’ hooves as Mount Vernon pays tribute to the greatest horseman of his age, George Washington!

this exciting event, watch a simulated fox hunt demonstration on the estate of the Father of the American foxhound! Unlike in Washington’s time, no foxes will be hurt during this demonstration. A bag containing animal scent will be taken on a course around the 12-acre field and when one hound picks up the scent, the huntsman on horseback will signal the rest of the pack, and the hunt is on! During the fox hunt, learn about the sport of foxhunting and why Washington was known as the greatest horseman of his age.

Observe a cavalry demonstration on the 12-acre field before meeting the breeds that Washington loved so much. Learn about the role these animals played in the American Revolution and even meet Nelson, a horse similar to Washington’s beloved warhorse! Visit the estate’s modern livestock facilities for a chance to meet the horses, dogs, chickens, sheep, pigs, and cattle that call Mount Vernon home (free ticket required). Join Mount Vernon’s curators for Object Spotlight and discover the sporting side of George Washington, as one of Mount Vernon’s curators highlights objects from the collection related to hunting and fishing in the 18th century. Close the day by watching The Washington Cup, where horses and riders compete in series of judged skill competitions. The winner will be awarded the coveted Washington Cup!

Griffin House at The Hamilton in DC

Sunday, November 6, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
The Hamilton, 600 14th St NW
Washington, 20005

Griffin House didn’t begin playing guitar and writing songs until he was 18. The athletically gifted House shocked his family by turning down a sports scholarship to focus on music and, after graduating, moved to Nashville, started doing solo gigs and, within months, was headlining and touring with the likes of John Mellencamp and the Cranberries. Attracting the attention of major labels, he signed with Vancouver label Nettwerk and released Lost and Found.
His intelligent, heart-felt lyrics and melodies have made such songs as “The Guy Who Says Goodbye to You Is Out of His Mind” and “Better Than Love” radio mainstays. House released his 8th album BALLS in 2013, garnering even more commercial and critical acclaim.
This spring, House released his new album SO ON AND SO FORTH – a collection of original tunes that are considered some of his best yet and sure to please both old and new fans.

The Paramount, 215 East Main Street
Charlottesville, VA 22902 United States

The Sixth Annual United Nations of Comedy Tour Returns to the Paramount Theater
Five National Comedians Share the Stage for One Night Only – November 12th

The United Nations of Comedy Tour returns to The Paramount Theater on Saturday, November 12, 2016. This tour features national comedians as seen on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, Showtime, HBO, Ellen, Comedy Central, Comic View, TV shows, commercials, movies and other national programs. The United Nations of Comedy has become one of the area’s most highly anticipated comedy shows to visit the Paramount. From audience members bumping their head on the seat in front of them to tears streaming down their face, these things happen from uncontrollable laughter. This is certainly a DO NOT MISS event.

The Tour was founded with the premise of promoting diversity through laughter. The tour’s creator places focus on choosing the perfect blend of national comics by selecting an eclectic mix of comic styles. This year’s line up includes an hysterical array of national comedians: Emma Willmann, Funnyman Skiba, Antoine Scott, Alex Carabaño and Jason Andors. It does not get much funnier than that. Buckle your seatbelt and prepare for the ride of a lifetime but you may want to use the restroom first.

Back by popular demand, this will be Funnyman Skiba’s 11th visit to Charlottesville and his sixth visit to the Paramount Theater. He has been named the funniest comic alive and is extremely difficult for comedians to follow. Emma has made the list of being one of the Top 10 comics in New York. She has her own show on Sirius Radio and has appeared on a variety of national television programs. Being the only lesbian comic on the line up, she fits in perfectly to shake it up. She’s been featured on AfterEllen, Comedy Central and others. Jason Andors is legendary for his real life comedy making fun of himself as a young jewish guy who used to break dance and later, appeared on Showtime at the Apollo, BET Comic View four times, showing how real comedic talent can make anyone laugh. He also appeared on HBO, Showtime, Comedy Central and many other outlets. Representing the latino community, Alex Cabaño has been labeled as one of NY funniest comedians and appeared on CBS, Telemundo, BRIC Tv, etc. Antoine Scott has the ability to win over any crowd. He has appeared on TVOne and Showtime at the Apollo.

Doors to the Theater open at 6:45pm for VIP ticket holders and 7pm for general.  General Admission tickets are $38.25; VIP tickets are $48.25, which include a Meet and Greet Reception with catered food, drinks & a live performance by the Robert Jospé Express, premium seating in the center orchestra section.
