Shakespeare in the ‘Burg Theater Festival

The fourth Shakespeare in the ‘Burg theater festival will be held March 31-April 2, 2017 in beautiful, historic Middleburg, Va. This year’s event will feature a new theater company as well as a greater opportunity to support emerging playwrights—all in an intimate and lovely new venue.

Shakespeare in the Square, based in New York, NY, will perform Two Gentlemen of Verona; a play many scholars believe may be the first Shakespeare ever wrote. The troupe will also perform the winning plays from the festival’s one-act playwriting competition, a feature of the festival that has grown over the years. For younger theater fans, Nicolo Whimsey will introduce Shakespeare through music, comedy, juggling and more.

Disney’s romantic tale of Beauty & the Beast comes to life on the stage when Pied Piper Theatre presents this captivating musical production. Fighting off wolves and the angry villagers, she undertakes to transform him from Beast to Prince. Russian Grand Ballet presents Swan Lake

Auditions for Broadway’s musical version of PETER PAN presented by the Center for the Arts’ Pied Piper Theatre will be held Friday and Saturday, October 27 and 28 (callbacks Oct. 29) at the Center for the Arts at the Candy Factory, 9419 Battle Street, Manassas, VA. Young actors, singers, and dancers ages 8-18 are needed for over 40 roles, including Peter Pan, Wendy, Hook, pirates, Indians, lost boys, and many more characters from Neverland. Three performances are scheduled at the Hylton Performing Arts Center on January 20-21, 2018. Auditions are by appointment only by calling the Center for the Arts at 703-330-2787. Rehearsals will be held Tue/Thu/Sat. How to Audition classes are also offered 10/23-26 for those that would like to hone their audition skills. In celebration of the 70th anniversary of Ruth Stiles Gannett’s charming adventure book, My Father’s Dragon, Enchantment Theatre Company brings to life the story of a compassionate and courageous boy and his unlikely friendship with a splendid yellow and blue-striped dragon. For nearly twenty years, Philadelphia-based Enchantment Theatre Company has produced original works based on classic children’s literature, using its distinctive blend of puppets, masks, creative scenic effects, and original music. “Everything about this world-class production is inventive and endearing; it fully captures the spirit of the beloved stories, the essence of childhood, and the imagination of the audience, both young and old. Windmore Presents “It’s a Wonderful Life – A Live Radio Play”. This beloved American holiday classic comes to life as a full stage production depicting a live 1940s radio broadcast. The play is adapted by Joe Landry from the screenplay by Frances Goodrich, Albert Hackett, Frank Capra, and Jo Swerling. Produced by special arrangement with Playscipts, Inc. and directed by local Jeff Walker. Locally cast from Culpeper and Fauquier counties. Madcap mastermind Ken Ludwig (Lend Me a Tenor and Moon Over Buffalo) reinvents Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s 1902 classic mystery, The Hound of the Baskervilles, into a hilarious romp about everyone’s favorite detective and his most famous case. The male heirs of the Baskerville line are being murdered one by one, and Sherlock Holmes, along with his trusted sidekick Dr. Watson, must work feverishly to crack the mystery of the curse before it dooms the newest heir. With only five energetic actors playing the roles of more than 40 quirky characters, this production from America’s oldest theater company takes the audience on a sidesplitting caper through the Devonshire moors, crowded railway stations, foggy London streets, and gloomy baronial mansions, where the duo searches for clues, runs into dead ends, and puzzles out the truth for the shockingly funny conclusion.

Women Composers Over the Centuries: A Piano Recital

Bedtime is approaching, and this team of construction vehicles needs to get their rest. But Crane Truck is getting cranky, Cement Mixer takes too long with bath time, and Dump Truck just isn’t sleepy! Excavator and Bulldozer find that preparing for bed is a job in itself! Will they ever get some shut-eye before tomorrow’s day of work? A world premiere musical based upon the New York Times best-selling picture book about construction vehicles by author Sherri Duskey Rinker and illustrator Tom Lichtenheld demonstrates the importance of teamwork, follow-through, hard work, and bedtime rituals. Founded in 2004, the Bay Area Children’s Theatre works to enrich children’s lives, inspire their imagination, and introduce them to lifelong enjoyment of theater.
