Traveling Petting Zoo at Keswick Vineyards

We had so much fun with Foxboro Farm Traveling Petting Zoo last month, we are having them come visit again! If you missed it last month, now is your chance!

They will be visiting Keswick Vineyards on Sunday, August 26th from 12pm-3pm and this time we will have Bo Hatchet Barbeque and Catering and Kona Ice Cville here too to make it even better!

No entry-fee! Just gather up your friends and littles and enjoy some great wine and food, beautiful views, and sweet animals!

Open Late Concert Series

The August 31st concert will feature the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra, playing classical and show tunes favorites, and is in partnership with Middelburg Community Charter School, Sky Meadows State Park, George Mason Alumni Association, and the Foxcroft School. The Byrne Gallery is proud to present Sanctuaries, an exhibition of expressive landscape paintings by Jacquelyn Jouvenal. The exhibit will begin on Saturday, September 1st and continues through Sunday, September 30th. There will be a reception for the artist on Saturday, September 8th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. It is open to the public and everyone is cordially invited to attend. The Byrne Gallery is located at 7 West Washington Street in Middleburg, Virginia. Four Ballets, One Year, One Painter
Works by Web Bryant

Exhibit Dates: September 5-October 31

Manassas Ballet Theatre is a local treasure, the largest professional ballet company in Northern Virginia. Web Bryant spent an entire year observing, sketching and painting these extraordinary dancers. His works in oils and pastels encompass all four ballets in the troupe’s 2017-2018 season, including rehearsals, performances, and candid backstage moments. Before turning to fine art, Bryant was a senior illustrator at USA Today for 30 years. He teaches at the Yellow Barn Studio at Glen Echo Park and is a member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters. Meet the artist at the reception September 22, 7-9 pm, and enjoy a brief excerpt from the Manassas Ballet Theatre’s production of Dracula.

About the Center for the Arts:
Greater Manassas/Prince William County sponsors theatrical productions for children and adults, teaches arts classes, promotes visual arts and provides community outreach programs for local youth. Founded in 1984 by a group of artists and art lovers, the Center aims to enrich the quality of life in the Northern Virginia suburbs through arts performance and education. Twilight Polo – Fiesta Night

Twilight Polo celebrates its Silver Anniversary in 2018! Since 1993, Twilight Polo has bought the community together to watch fast paced arena polo here at Great Meadow.

Join us at Greenhill Stadium in The Plains, VA Saturday nights for Twilight Polo at Great Meadow! We will have THREE polo matches and halftime games for kids and adults. The evening will conclude with dancing in the pavilion after the matches!

Arena polo is like hockey on horseback! It is fast paced and easy to watch, even if you’ve never seen polo before.

General admission seating is on our lush grass berm overlooking the Greenhill Stadium. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to set up a comfortable seat for the game. There will be food and wine available for purchase on site. You are welcome to bring a picnic and drinks if you like.

Watch polo, drink wine, and dance the night away. Gates open at 5:30 PM, the first match starts at 6:00 PM with dancing in the pavilion following the final feature match at 8:00 PM.

History in Your Hands

HIYH is a program for visitors of all ages who are blind or have low vision. HIYH is an opportunity to interact with the collections through tactile exploration of selected objects, and through verbal description, tactile graphics, and other materials for artifacts that cannot be touched. Trained Museum volunteers and Visitor Services staff lead these events.

Meet the Author with Alastair Jackson

Join NSLM and author Alastair Jackson for a presentation on his newest publication, Lady of the Chase, The Life and Hunting Diaries of Daphne Moore. Longtime reporter in Horse and Hound, the elegantly turned-out Moore lived on a shoe-string budget, following the hounds and reporting on hunting characters from the 1930s to the 80s. In addition to her professional hunting reports she wrote- and illustrated- these personal hunt diaries. Alastair Jackson, the retired Director of the British Masters of Foxhounds Association, compiled the previously undiscovered hunting diaries of Daphne Moore, making them available to the public for the first time. $10 admission, free to NSLM members. Dog Days

Man’s best friend is taking over the National Museum of the Marine Corps on
Saturday, September 22, 2018!

We are wrapping up the last day of summer with our annual “Dog Days” event. The event will include a number of activities based on the vital role dogs play in the Marine Corps as well as some activities just for fun.

Bring the kids! There will be crafts, a gallery scavenger hunt–and the opportunity to meet the official mascot of the Corps, Chesty the bulldog. There will also be a bulldog kissing booth.

Outside, on the grounds of the Museum, visitors will have a chance to see working dogs in action and meet many different animal rescue groups.

Dogs are welcome on the grounds of Museum. Please keep dogs on a leash and use “doggie” relief area near the flag pole.

Entrance to the Museum and parking are always FREE!
