Charlottesville Symphony – “Variations for Spring”
This program is repeated on Sunday, April 3, 3:30pm, Martin Luther King, Jr. Performing Arts Center at Charlottesville High School, 1400 Melbourne Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
The orchestra performs works by Butterworth and Vaughan Williams, the Virginia premiere of Christopher Theofanidis’s “Dreamtime Ancestors” and Aaron Copland’s popular suite from “Appalachian Spring.”

The Paramount’s MET Live in HD: Madama Butterfly
Kristine Opolais brings her heartbreaking interpretation of the title role in Madama Butterfly to Live in HD screens for the first time, in Anthony Minghella’s critically acclaimed 2006 production. Roberto Alagna sings Lieutenant Pinkerton, the callous officer who crushes Butterfly’s dreams of love. Season Opening Party and Tim Smith at Belmont Farm Distillery
Come help us celebrate a new season at the distillery. Tim Smith will be here signing bottles. We’ll also have music by Steel Grey and Friends and food for sale, courtesy of the local Knights of Columbus. There will be free tours. Tastings will be available for $10 (any 4 samples, .5 oz each). The annual Shakespeare in the ‘Burg theatre festival, set for April 1-3, 2016, will feature performances of The Importance of Being Earnest and The Life of King Henry V, by the internationally acclaimed American Shakespeare Center (ASC), as Middleburg, Va., once again presents a weekend of performances and more.
In addition to the ASC performances, Shakespeare in the ‘Burg will once again have a performance of the winning play from the festival’s one-act playwriting competition on Sunday, April 3, at the Middleburg Community Center. The event will start at 11:00 a.m. with a gourmet champagne brunch, followed by a performance of the play. This year, there were more than 250 submissions from all over the world. Tickets are $25 per person.

SAFE Day at the Park

8th Annual Kite Flight Festival
Dust your kites off after a long winter and join in the fun in the skies above Three Fox Vineyards at our 8th Annual Kite Flight Festival from 1:00 – 3:00 pm! The vineyard always has great breezes in the Spring for kite flying and we’re going to take advantage of them for some early springtime fun. We’ll have prizes for the following categories: Best in Show, Most Time Aloft, Most Creative Kite, Youngest Kite Flyer, and Youngest at Heart. Judging begins at 3:00. Enjoy live music with Richard Giersch who will be playing classics from the 60s-90s from 1:30 to 4:30 pm. Black Fig Pizza Company will be selling their artisan wood-fired pizzas.

A celebration of National Poetry Month
Please join the Friends of the Culpeper County Library at 2 p.m. to listen to local poets. Dr. David Sam will be joined by poets from the Windmore Foundation of the Arts. Featured poets are Gary Misch, Laurel Van Horn, Fran Cecere, Rose Jacob, Nancy Scot, Gwen Monahan, and Pennie Patterson. Windmore will have two Windmore Writers Anthologies available for sale. Somm: Into the Bottle, just released in February, is the latest from Jason Wise, whose 2012 documentary Somm followed four candidates as they prepared for the Master Sommelier exam and provided unique insight into the world of wine. Movie goers will be able to enjoy wine from local winery partner DuCard Vineyards while watching the film – wine is included in the ticket price. Q&A session will follow the screening, with winemakers, filmmakers and wine industry representatives. The screening is a fundraiser for The Film Festival at Little Washington, with net proceeds being donated to the Festival.
