Four Ballets, One Year, One Painter

Manassas Ballet Theatre is a local treasure, the largest professional ballet company in Northern Virginia. Web Bryant spent an entire year observing, sketching and painting these extraordinary dancers. His works in oils and pastels encompass all four ballets in the troupe’s 2017-2018 season, including rehearsals, performances, and candid backstage moments. Before turning to fine art, Bryant was a senior illustrator at USA Today for 30 years. He teaches at the Yellow Barn Studio at Glen Echo Park and is a member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters. Meet the artist at the reception September 22, 7-9 pm, and enjoy a brief excerpt from the Manassas Ballet Theatre’s production of Dracula.

About the Center for the Arts:
Greater Manassas/Prince William County sponsors theatrical productions for children and adults, teaches arts classes, promotes visual arts and provides community outreach programs for local youth. Founded in 1984 by a group of artists and art lovers, the Center aims to enrich the quality of life in the Northern Virginia suburbs through arts performance and education. A theater, an art gallery and classrooms are located in the historic Candy Factory building in Old Town Manassas, at 9419 Battle Street.

The songs that weave themselves into the fabric of listeners’ lives are usually the ones in which an artist lays her soul bare for the world to hear. Struthers’ current release Champion, is built on these kinds of songs. The 13-song collection written with her band the Party Line, is the follow-up to 2015’s Wake, which earned Struthers acclaim from major outlets like NPR Music, Rolling Stone Country, and “Fresh Air” and their Live show is full to the brim with stellar musicianship, unexpected arrangements that blur the lines between folk, roots, and rock, and an audible sense that everyone in the room is having a damn good time. When not on the road, the band’s been in-studio recording their next release.

Calling all kids: you’re invited to
“Halloween Songs & Stories” on October 14!

Middleburg’s Emmanuel Episcopal Church presents the latest in their At The Parish House performance series. “Halloween Songs & Stories” is the perfect warm-up for Halloween. Local residents and students will give you goose bumps with a medley of songs and stories. Come join the sing-alongs, the costume parade, The Monster Mash dance, and much more. Scary refreshments will be served. Treats for all who wear costumes! The fun happens on Sunday October 14, 3:00 p.m., at Emmanuel’s Parish House, 105 East Washington St. in Middleburg. Les Yeux du Monde is pleased to present “John Borden Evans: Blue Moon” from 13 October through 11 November 2018. Evans, who has been exhibiting with LYDM since 1997, is well known for his paintings of his North Garden environs seen at different times of day and in all seasons. The paintings are richly textured with countless layers of acrylic underpainting often in brilliant hues, lending mystery, surprise and pulsating life to the final work. Although his subjects are ordinary Virginia landscapes, often including grazing sheep or cattle that he encounters daily, the animals, objects or trees take on an otherworldly aura. Every natural or man-made element in his works contains its own seed of life and energy, thus lending a pantheistic magic to the whole.

Celebrate Virginia Wine Month at our annual festival, Rock the Grapes!

In addition to our selection of Veramar Vineyard wines, James Charles Winery and Bogati Winery will be there pouring with their award- winning wines as well!

Featuring awesome live music from The Cruisers and amazing local food, this festival is fun for everyone.

Your ticket includes admission, a souvenir wine glass, and a tasting voucher redeemable at any one of the wineries represented at the festival. Plus, wine-a-ritas are only $5 all day long!

You’ll even have the opportunity to stomp grapes, just like in I Love Lucy! We strongly encourage if you wish to stomp the grapes to sign up in advance as souvenir foot stopping T-shirts and grapes are limited.

Due to the popularity of this events, lawn chairs are recommended.

Tickets are $15 in advance ($12.75 for Estate Club members) and $20 at the gate for everyone.

Pets are not allowed at the festival. This event will go on, rain or shine, and tickets are not refundable for weather-related reasons.

About the exhibition: Visitors will enjoy tracing the history of saltwater fly fishing through displays of evolving tackle, ranging from fascinating home improvements on early equipment to the incredibly efficient gear of today that allow saltwater anglers to successfully target fish in ways that were inconceivable not long ago. Displays will also include a remarkable photographic record from the earliest days of the sport.
