But Crane Truck is getting cranky, Cement Mixer takes too long with bath time, and Dump Truck just isn’t sleepy! Excavator and Bulldozer find that preparing for bed is a job in itself! Will they ever get some shut-eye before tomorrow’s day of work? A world premiere musical based upon the New York Times best-selling picture book about construction vehicles by author Sherri Duskey Rinker and illustrator Tom Lichtenheld demonstrates the importance of teamwork, follow-through, hard work, and bedtime rituals. Founded in 2004, the Bay Area Children’s Theatre works to enrich children’s lives, inspire their imagination, and introduce them to lifelong enjoyment of theater.

Pied Piper Theatre’s Disney The Little Mermaid
Pied Piper Theatre’s production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid follows the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, who longs to leave the ocean and walk in the world above the sea. Against the wishes of her father King Triton, she makes a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula and meets Prince Eric on her first adventure on land. With the help of her best friends Flounder, Sebastian the crab, and Scuttle the seagull, Ariel attempts to break the curse of the sea witch.
Performances are Saturday, April 28 at 2PM and 7PM and Sunday, April 29 at 3PM at the Hylton Performing Arts Center.

Offered in partnership with Front Royal 4H, this program explores the beginning, middle, and end of the Remount’s human, equine, and canine stories. Purchased in 1911, the Remount was a staging station for the Army’s war horse and canine training and breeding program until 1948. Thousands of horses came east by train to Front Royal where they were made fit to serve, then shipped to Norfolk where they boarded transport ships to Europe. There is a long and fascinating history here of the great and good horses, mules, and dogs who were stationed in Front Royal to serve our country before and after both World Wars. Some famous residents of the Remount station include Man O’ War and the German Lipizzaners captured in WWII.

Loudoun Symphony Presents Something Borrowed, Something Blue on April 28th
Loudoun Symphony will be conducted by Maestro Todd Craven in a concert that features Joan Tower’s exciting Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman, a take on Aaron Copland’s iconic Fanfare for a Common Man, George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, described by him as a “musical kaleidoscope of America,” and Dvorak’s New World Symphony. Brian Ganz, who is widely regarded as one of the leading pianists of his generation will be the soloist with the LSO on Rhapsody in Blue. Tickets are $30 for Adults, $25 for Seniors (65+), and tickets for Youths (up to age 12 and under) are FREE, but must be ticketed. The LSO 4-pack provides 4 tickets for $60.

The Horse: Meet the Author with Wendy Williams
The Horse: The Epic Story of our Noble Companions is a revealing account of the animal who has been at our side through the ages, befriending us and traveling with us over the mountains and across the plains. The Dalton Gang
On exhibit: May 1 – June 8
The Dalton Gang consists of photographers Bruce Fagin, Edward Savwoir, Michael Smith, Sandy Adams, Bonita F. Bing, and George Dalton Tolbert IV. Drawing inspiration from an infamous gang of outlaws in the Wild West (& George’s middle name), Michael Smith coined the group of artists The Dalton Gang. A few of the photographers met at Howard University in the 60s, while the others became acquainted after joining the Exposure Group, an African-American Photographers Association in Washington DC. Each artist has chosen 12 pieces from their personal collection to represent the gamut of their photographic career, emphasizing their individual styles and preferences.

Driven to Abstraction
The Byrne Gallery is proud to present “Driven to Abstraction,” an exhibition of the constructed panel oil paintings of Mark Dassoulas and the stainless steel sculptures of Richard Binder. This exhibit runs May 2 – June 3. The Artist’s reception is Saturday, May 5th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and is open to the public. Everyone is cordially invited to attend.

Time flies when you’re making art: Firnew Farm Artists’ Circle is turning 15.
The Madison County farm/studio/gallery will celebrate 15 years of creativity and community at its juried art and photography show on Sunday, May 6, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the gallery. The exhibit will feature works by more than 40 regional artists, all from Virginia, in varied mediums — oil, photography, watercolor and mixed media.
“Our focus is the natural Virginia Piedmont landscape that surrounds us. It is the perfect muse. It is line and color. It is ever changing and precious; and each artist has a unique and individual response to it,” says Trish Crowe, founder and leader of Firnew Farm Artists’ Circle.
This year, photographer John Berry is taking his passion for large prints to the next level. The May show will feature new, large print installations of his work outdoors (left).

Lucketts, VA – Lucketts Spring Market is pleased to announce the dates for the 19th annual event as May 18 – 20 at the Clarke County Fairgrounds in Berryville, VA. The wildly popular Northern Virginia event showcases more than 200 of the best “vintage hip” vendors on the East Coast. This year the popular DIY network show Salvage Dawgs hosts Mike Whiteside and Robert Kulp will be at the market with products and opportunities to connect with fans.

National Kids to Parks Day
This National Kids to Parks Day, join us for the kick-off of our Third Saturday Discovery Nights at Sky Meadows. The Children’s Discovery Area comes to life at 6:30 p.m. with activities at each of our interactive discovery stations. Kids, paint the sunset with nature’s ink, grow and ‘make’ food at your frontier home, dance to the tunes of a barnyard band, and more. Pick up a scavenger hunt brochure and join a volunteer or ranger for a hike on the Track Trail. Come back the third Saturday, June through September, for our Third Saturday Discovery Nights.
Can’t make the evening event? The Children’s Discovery Area will be open all day for your own adventure. Or, stop by the Visitor Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to pick up a Junior Ranger booklet, Family Discovery Backpack activity, or rent a Geocaching GPS unit to go on your own kid-friendly adventure. Lastly, be sure to stop by the Explorer Outpost from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., located on the Boston Mill Road Trail near the Park Office, for a kid-friendly discovery table.
