The days are growing crisp and cooler, and the leaves are about to burst into rich shades of red and gold. The historic Burwell-Morgan Mill, an 18th-century grist mill in Millwood, VA, is also bursting with color as artwork of every description fills all available space. The 23rd fall showing of Art at the Mill opens Saturday, October 6, 2012, and runs daily through Sunday October 21, 2012, at the Burwell-Morgan Mill in Millwood, Virginia. A Shenandoah Valley tradition, Art at the Mill has grown over the past 20 years into one of the region’s largest and most popular art events.
Offering visitors the unique opportunity to experience exceptional, affordable art in a historic setting, Art at the Mill continues to accumulate an enthusiastic, diverse following of artists and art lovers. Over 300 artists submitted works for consideration by the jury, and close to 1,000 works of original art were selected to be displayed and sold. Visitors to this fall’s show will find exquisite sculpture, colorful oils, delicate watercolors, fine woodworking, and
exceptional pottery of all sizes, shapes and styles.
Purchases made at Art at the Mill also go a long way toward supporting artists and their
work in our community. Artists keep 70% of their sales; the Clarke County Historical
Association — the event sponsor — receives 30% to support the ongoing operation of the Mill
and CCHA’s museum in Berryville, as well as to fund the Sarah P. Trumbower Memorial
Scholarship and the Arts grant.
“This is my first Art at the Mill and I can’t believe how amazing the mill looks with all of
the art in place. This is a one-of-a-kind experience that you won’t find anywhere else.” CCHA
Director Laura Christiansen said of this fall’s show. Christiansen went on to encourage everyone,
longtime patrons and first time visitors, to come out and see the show. “I think it would be very
hard for anyone to go away without being impressed and inspired.” she added.
