As most of us know, this weekend is Gold Cup Weekend in the Piedmont. The event that we all look forward to every Spring. The guys get their favorite Polo’s on and the women have spent the entire week looking for (or making!) that perfect hat for the races — each one thinking “I know I’m going to win the hat contest this year, I just know it!”
We are all pretty excited about the Races this weekend, but did you know that there are so many other events taking place as well? — The Grand Opening of a new Va winery, a popular Va wine festival, and most importantly….Mother’s Day!
Let’s start with the wineries.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1-6pm, Desert Rose Winery invites you to celebrate their Grand Opening at their winery and ranch in Hume, VA. Desert Rose Winery officially opened on April 1st, but with the busy chaos of opening a new winery, they are now having their grand opening this weekend — and what a beautiful weekend it’s going to be! Music will be provided on Friday evening by “Two For The Road’s” Beth Whistler and Larry Haun, a vocalist and pianist/keyboard duo. Saturday, enjoy Blue Grass with Joe King. And on Mother’s Day, bring Mom to the winery for Desert Rose’s Mother’s Day Special — receive 2 glasses of wine and a chocolate rose for just $19.95.
Check out other Mother’s Day winery events with a Mother’s Day Weekend at Narmada Winery and Loudoun Valley Vineyards, Roses & Rosé at Prince Carter Winery, a pre-mother’s day celebration with Brunch, Wine & Mimosas at Willowcroft Farm Vineyards on Saturday, and so many more! Another fantastic wine event happening this weekend is the Monpelier Wine Festival on the beautiful grounds of James Madison’s Montpelier in Orange, VA. On May 7 & 8, enjoy the best of Virginia wines from 24 great VA wineries with wine cooking classes, music, upscale vendors and a kite extravaganza. Feel free to bring a picnic, take a carriage ride, fly a kite or make balloon animals with the kids — fun for the entire family! Cost is $25gate/$15 advance.
If it’s something more relaxing that you’d like, the Mother’s Day Music Festival in Charlottesville, VA will also take place this weekend on Saturday May 7th from 12-5pm. Enjoy live music, food and drinks, face painting and more, all while spending time with Mom and having a blast! $5 for adults/$3 for Seniors and students. Mother’s get in FREE.
And of course, there is the much anticipated 86th running of the Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase race on Saturday May 7th — gates open at 10 am. If you’re a procrastinator and haven’t gotten your tickets yet, there’s still hope. Unfortunately, you can no longer buy tickets online, however you can purchase tickets at one of these locations. Don’t only enjoy the races while at Gold Cup, but also enjoy the Jack Russell Terrier races, the tent, tailgate and hat contests, as well as over 30 vendor booths for shopping.
We hope you have an amazing weekend, and don’t forget about your Mother, Grandmother, Wife or other “Mother” in your life on Mother’s Day Sunday!
